Wow, the week is over, and the weekend with it! That’s probably due to the fact that I had quite a lot of fun over the past few days. One of the highlights was Earth Hour last night – did you flip the switch to off as well? Over at the hotel, five hundred candles did a wonderful job at making people happy. The candlelit dinner was nothing short of fabulous – even though the room temperature soared, giving the true meaning to “warm candle light”. I took a whole bunch of photos, which I’ve uploaded to the Kempinski’s Flickr page.
And then there was the major and long awaited event of Renzo, Knight of Gozo, being born! Renzo is the new mascot of the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz. Isn’t he handsome? Well, he would be. Dreamed up by two ladies, my boss Tanja and myself, and then brought to life by a third one, the very talented Nicole, there was simply no way he could turn out ugly! And I can tell you, we’re all very much in love with him…
Renzo just introduced himself on Discover Gozo, and if you like him as much as we do, why don’t you hop over to facebook and befriend the cute guy? He’s still single, by the way!
For a while I was kidding myself, hoping he’d be able to take some of my workload onto his strong shoulders. But that illusion only lasted until I started juggling three identities on facebook and twitter (yep, you can follow Renzo on twitter, too!). Now that’s what I’d call split personality…

Ever so slowly I’m wading through hundreds of photos I took in the past few days. The power-cut on Monday afternoon, that blacked out the entire country, certainly didn’t help matters!! Here’s a small handful of pics I took in Xlendi, when a group of jet-ski enthusiasts took advantage of the wonderful spring day. I was especially grateful for the luzzu entering the little harbour just in time to get its photo snapped. This is the favourite view of my favourite bay, by the way, when the sun reflects in millions of sparkling stars… It’s just plain beautiful!

So I have one of the most expensive consumer DSLR’s money can buy. If you’re a professional Canonist, don’t read on… you might cringe. To my delight I found out that my wide-angle lens, a Tokina 12-20mm, which is considered cheap stuff, delivers really great pictures with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. It isn’t even made for a full-frame camera but specifically for a 1.6 crop sensor. The downside is that at anything less than 20mm, you get a funny porthole view like in the one on the right (which was shot at 15mm). But it’s nothing a little post-processing can’t handle. In any case, until I’ll be able to afford better glass (I will, one day!!), I’m quite happy with what I’ve got!
All photos in this post were taken on Monday in Dahlet Qorrot, a small beach and fishing spot just outside Nadur. I used no filters and, except for lens aberration correction, no other photoshop enhancements – and I’m quite pleased with the outcome! Hope you’ll like them too.

My blog production remains on the low side… I often think I should talk about this or mention that, but at the end of the day there’s really nothing new to be told. Another birthday passed – yep, a whole bloody year over already. Again!! I used to be not too concerned about my age, but a few weeks ago I made my year of birth invisible on Facebook. Trying to save some face, so to speak LOL! I’m trying to convince myself I shouldn’t give too much importance to the years, but that’s much easier said than done!
Today I had a day off from work, and as usual hubby and I went out with the motorbike in search of some place I hadn’t invaded with my camera before. Sadly the weather today was on the cool/windy side, which hampered our explorer mood a little. Moreover, before setting off into the wilderness, we spent quite a long time (I reckon it was over an hour) at GoMobile, where we acquired my birthday present: an iPhone G3S!
I was considering to get a Windoze smartphone instead, but in the end decided against it. I don’t really need another computer! OK, truth be told, I didn’t need another mobile phone either, but let’s not go there!
When we were finally done at Go, we went to find a path leading to is-Salvatur in Marsalforn. That’s a miniature version of the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro. It’s really silly, but we couldn’t find a way to get up there! And as I said, we weren’t too keen on exploring because it really was rather chilly. So I took a couple of shots (the sky was beautiful, and the clouds seemed to have been summoned by Jesus himself!) – before we continued to Marsalforn for a late breakfast…

Our favourite breakfast place (Pierre’s) was closed, obviously due to the rough sea flooding the space where we usually sit, and so we settled for lunch in one of the restaurants at il-Menqa, where only occasionally a few waves managed to climb the wall.

And now the day is almost over too. A belated birthday dinner with hubby & son tonight, and that’s it. I sure wish there was a way to slow down time!
