I’m publishing my PhotoHunt early, because who knows when I’ll find the time after tonight… Tomorrow I need to do some serious shopping!! Apart from that, I’ve known all week what I’m going to post for the theme – Wide -  it fits just perfectly my Tokina wide-angle lens! :p

You’ll notice that I’ve learnt a few new photoshop skills, I couldn’t resist putting them to test. (Big thank-you to my son – or then again, not, because now I’m spending even more time with my photos!!)

The first was taken at the same place and time as my breakfast photohunt a while back, albeit after breakfast, showing the bay of Marsalforn:

Then there’s one of my favourite places for photo-shooting, Dwejra. The wide angle really dwarfs the gigantic rock. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Gozo: there are actually two people walking right on top, those tiny dots you can see about half a finger-width to the left of the arch!

Last but not least, this is the lobby of the hotel where I work:

As usual, larger versions of the pics are found in my photoblog, but I’m too lazy to set the links right now…

I’m off now to find a cosy place in this house. My hands and feet are freezing. Yes, it is cold over here: 11°C the last time I checked, and inside it’s not much warmer. These are not normal temperatures for December – but then, you hardly find “normal” weather anywhere any more, eh?

Oh, I don’t want to forget: if you happen to be in Gozo tomorrow, don’t miss Chasing Pandora!! They are going to play in Arkadia’s function hall at 6 pm – and there’s going to be a wine-tasting too!! Chasing Pandora’s last Gozo gig at the Astra was cancelled – I’m keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Happy weekend everyone!

Caution: Mammoth post ahead…

First Baby Steps

Yesterday I read my camera’s manual from back to back, and this morning I did it all over again while I was having my first caffeine fix, still in bed. I’m cautiously confident that I finally wrapped my head about aperture values and shutter speeds – the pros among you will laugh about it, but it really did give me a headache (and for indoor photos it still does)!

I finally got out into the garden at around 9.45 am (yeah, waaay beyond dawn  ) – just in time to make use of the little sunshine there was until thick clouds put an end to that, once again (the weather this weekend has been awful!).

I’m becoming rather picky about the quality of my photos… I took about 60 shots, of which I only kept 14 – but not more than 6 made it to my blog. And if my skills were a little more advanced, I’d probably choose just three of these for public consumption…

I’m beginning to doubt that I’ll be able to keep up with the daily blogging; it would be a miracle! But to be honest, my mindset seems to be shifting; it’s slowly dawning on me that what has been my daily fix of communication with the outside world for a couple of years, is going to have less importance. Having said that, I probably will continue until the end of November, just to prove I can do it LOL!

Are you fed up of clouds pics yet? If you are, then quick, look the other way!! :D

Already 7 days?! Kinda shocking that so much time has passed and I have no idea where exactly it went off to!

If anyone needs proof how strangely my brain is working at the moment (strangely? More like, not working at all!): I just found out that Wen had passed two awards on to me, one of them rather sweet. :) Thank you Wen! The strange part is, I commented on her post on Sunday without realising that my name was in it. Duh!

Hey, this is the last weekend of Summer!! And a long weekend at that as Malta celebrates Independence Day today. Well, half of Malta, anyway. A country with less than half a million inhabitants, and they can’t even agree on a public holiday… Not that I really care who’s celebrating and who isn’t. What irks me is that the road rage-inducing effects of our habitual ‘Sunday drivers’ (the Maltese equivalent of German drivers with hat!) are compounded not only by hundreds of cars coming off the ferry from Malta, but also by the presence of heavy trucks on the roads, as for half the working population it’s business as usual today… If that isn’t idiotic, I don’t know what is.

Oops!! My first published article this year (yeah, that bad, I know!), and over my design games I played today, I forgot all about it!

As I mentioned a few days ago, I had interviewed Raphael Labro for the Gallarija (Malta Independent on Sunday); today it was finally published. Just when I meant to pack in for today, I stumbled across the newspaper… so I traipsed back to the ‘puter and added it to my archives. :)

It’s also online on the Independent’s website… unfortunately they omitted my name – good thing I have printed proof that it’s my work! ;)

The Labro exhibition will open next Saturday to invited guests, and after that, for one month, to the public. And as the devil wants, it I have not one but two invitations to exhibition openings that day, as Matthew Green kindly invited me to the Wonderful Life exhibition as well. I thought I’d miss them both because of a grand family reunion on the 4th. But that one’s on the 5th. Oh dear…

Well, Raphael was first, so there! Sorry Matt, but I will come and have a look during the following week for sure!

Wish I was that popular all the year round…

Photographic Exhibition by Matthew Green – WONDERFUL LIFE

matthewgreen_poster.jpg

From the Press Release:

“Wonderful Life” is a photographic exhibition in three parts with a concurrent theme that is style led, composed of both traditional prints and manipulated images on paper and canvas. The work savours natural colours, contrasts and plays with the simplicity of the world around us that can often feel complicated and burdened with our own personal chaos.

Beach Life presents simple landscapes built on layers of blues and mocha. It is proudly escapist and takes the blank canvas of the sea to create a portal into a romantic and relaxing lifestyle.

In colour, but working with shadow and black and brown tones Coffee House is an appreciation of the talking shop that is the café and as Europe-wide bans are enforced, Coffee House bids farewell to smoke filled rooms where ideas are born and deals are closed.

Sketches of Gozo are earmarked for reproduction as a series of postcards for Malta, these stunning landscapes of a low tech land in a high tech world present a series of images that plays with colour to manipulate a fresh take on a familiar landscape.
