I’m just rediscovering that there is a good side to having regular working days: You actually get to enjoy your days off! Amazing news flash, isn’t it? You might think it’s strange that I’m pointing that out, but when I was working from home and took time off, there always was this nagging little pain in the back of my head, reminding me of stuff that’s waiting to be done.

Not so today. I had the day off instead of Saturday, and incredibly hubby was off, too (I’m sure had they known at his workplace that I was off, he’d have been working!!). To top it all, the weather was almost perfect for a nice walk with the camera. Almost, because those stupid high clouds were back, making the sky look really dull. But what the heck… it didn’t stop me from shooting! So off we went. We took some sandwiches with us and rode with hubby’s bike (to keep him happy ;) ) until the terrain was too bad for biking with the wife in back. He would have gone on, had he been alone, no doubt!!

And another week’s over and done with; I must’ve been having tons of fun, but probably was too darn busy to realise it…

The world pretty much passes me by at the moment. We do watch the evening news every night, but for two reasons I hardly take anything in of what is being said: It is the time of the day when my mind’s engine goes idle, and I just go blank. Add to that the fact that it’s pre-election time. I don’t know about you, but all the bickering that’s going on between our leaders and wanna-be captains just bores the hell out of me. Sometimes I feel embarrassed instead of them, and that goes for practically all contenders! I suppose it is the same silly game the world over. Only outside this tiny country there’s probably more to life than politics; at least I don’t recall such frenzy from the years when I lived in Germany.

Phew! I almost believed I wouldn’t make it in time… But there are still two hours left to go this Saturday, so here’s my PhotoHunt for this week. The theme is Hot.

The reason why I’m so late is that I accompanied the duty manager today, in order to train for when it will be finally my turn. (Which is going to be way too soon: on December 13th…) I spent the whole day at the hotel, from 9 am until just after 7 pm. Next time I won’t be able to leave before 11 pm. Gulp!

In the USA Thanksgiving is celebrated today… I wouldn’t know about it if it wasn’t for my many great friends ‘cross the water!

Maybe it is a little odd that a designated day should be necessary to give thanks and count one’s blessings. On the other hand, it is a good thing that there is a reminder to stop you in your tracks and force you to think. For the past two weeks, I certainly haven’t stopped to think of anything at all. All my concentration is being wasted on trying to run a little faster than the clock’s hands do, but so far they’ve been defeating me. Time is such a master of deception!

This post is going to be shorter than my lunch break.

At lunchtime – weather permitting – I usually go for a stroll outside the hotel. The time is too short to walk very far, and the terrain isn’t exactly suitable for hiking with office clothing either, but at least I get to see what the weather is like. And apart from that, the office air makes me sneeze incessantly for some reason (I might have become allergic to work since my last job LOL!), so I figure that some fresh air won’t hurt me.

weather.gifIf I say “cool”, what I really mean is “freezing cold”! Hope you’ll forgive me for starting off with weather talk (a somewhat neglected topic in my blog of late LOL!). During the past few days Gozo has truly been given a taste of winter, although the forecast for next week looks slightly friendlier – and snow remains in the realms of the impossible. However, a couple of days ago we had a crazy hailstorm, lasting a couple of minutes, that sent everyone scrambling for shelter and did ugly damage to the paintwork of cars. Thankfully I had just reached the safety of the office when it started, and I watched the spectacle through the window; it really was scary! (This week was the first time in months that I’d left home without my camera. Bummer!!) Since then we’ve had lots of rain and wind – perfect weather. If it was January or February!

One of the things I realised this week was, I love my desk at home, no matter how cluttered or otherwise! Maybe I grew too attached to it during the past 2 years. It’s by no means a spacious affair, but if I could take it with me to work… I think I would! This week’s PhotoHunt theme being I love…, I snapped this photo a few minutes ago – I even found a slightly older, tidier edition in my archives – you can see it on the monitor.
