ALL ABOUT ME (and probably more than you want to know, too):
Born in the spring anno 1959, I’m not exactly a spring chicken. However, and that should read HOWEVER in caps, I still feel very young at heart, and whether that’s denial or pretence, I don’t really care.
Having grown up in a rather buzzing city, Berlin, I moved to Gozo in 1984 and have lived here ever since.
After working for nearly two decades in tourism, I decided to “follow my dreams” in November 2005 (midlife crisis? What midlife crisis?!)
My “dreams” had everything to do with writing – and nothing to do with tourism! For exactly two years I worked on becoming something of a writer. I (self-)published a novel, Angelina’s Ghost, which has actually been read by a few people – much to my surprise. I started contributing to the Malta Independent’s First Magazine on an almost regular basis…
And finally I even published a non-fiction book in German, Leben und Arbeiten in Malta (Living and Working in Malta), this time with a publishing contract! But I was forced to admit that writing would not be the trade that pays my bills. There’s nothing as calming as having a regular wage cheque coming in at the end of a month! Even if the way there is sometimes less than calm.
Nowadays I am part of the prestigious Kempinski group of luxury hotels. As E-Commerce & Marketing Manager at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz (in Gozo, obviously!), I am responsible for a little bit of everything: I design adverts, brochures and other printed stuff, and the updating of our website is also in my hands. I consider myself extremely lucky: after taking countless turns and roundabouts I actually arrived in a job that has plenty of room for my creativity and that, I feel, has my name written all over it! This was the most important thing I wanted to achieve before turning 50 – and I managed to do that with nine months to spare! :)
Apart from writing, I love photography. But it wasn’t until late last year that I was able to lay my hands on a real camera, when my dad gave me his precious Canon EOS 300D (you might know it as Digital Rebel). That EOS and I have been almost inseparable since then, with the logical conclusion that a while ago I’ve started a photo blog where I showcase my best shots. – And here are a few I took at sunrise on my 49th birthday… The music is by Roger Hodgson, former voice of Supertramp and my all-time favourite musician, who is celebrating a fabulous rebirth of his career right now!
MY PET BLOG SUBJECTS:
Rants - left, right and centre (beware: it gets pretty tiring at times…)
Tourism - the good, the bad and the ugly… Not much good left in my humble opinion, which I formed in the course of over 20 years working at the front!
Simba – Our tom cat that we found abandoned in an old and equally abandoned suitcase in the yard of my husband’s workplace. When I find nothing to blog about, Simba is always there with some inspiration!
Blogging – Every aspect of it, in fact. Writing, tweaking, designing…
Photography – My latest craze, and maybe just a little bit more than merely a craze: I love it!
Weather - I hadn’t even noticed how often I mentioned it until I read through my past posts…
