Stormy October

These past weeks have been very stormy ones in every way. From the literal (= meteorological) point of view, this month has been “the fifth wettest October since 1947″, while last Monday, which saw the country coming to a standstill due to widespread flooding, “was the wettest day in seven decades”! (Source: Times of Malta)

If I were fit enough I think I’d go out cloud-hunting every single day. As it is, though, I’m trapped in a very confined space. Even just spending a few minutes at a time in the garden with my camera has become a taxing task. That’s probably the reason why my mind is constantly filling up with words waiting to be written down. At times my head is spinning with thoughts about this and that – just as it used to before I became so enthralled by photography that it didn’t leave much space for writing.

Cloud-hunting in my garden yesterday!

Right now, I’m full to the brim with contempt for a couple of people, who were claiming to be helping me when in reality their aim turned out to be quite the opposite. I have always had a rather trusting nature (well, hubby calls it plain stupid!), so it was sheer luck that in the last moment I decided to double-check the information I’d been given. I’m still reeling with shock. Just what is it that makes such people tick? I don’t know what they could have possibly gained had I walked into their trap. I really find it a little hard to believe they would have just high-fived each other in glee. Well, whatever their reasons, I do hope that one day they’ll get all caught up in those devious intrigues they’re spinning and get to taste their own medicine. Remember, what goes round, comes round…
.

.

Health-wise I’m still on a downhill path, the last couple of days having been worse than usual in terms of pain. I’m almost ecstatic that I have received an earlier appointment for the CT scan though. Yes, thankfully the true angels in my life outnumber the bad guys! Here’s hoping to get some answers on the 6th November!

Roger Hodgson’s CLASSICS LIVE

And now for the soothing sounds that came just when I so badly needed them. Part One of Roger Hodgson’s Classics Live is finally available for download from his website. Check out this sampler to hear what US$ 9.99 get you:

.

.

Quality is superb, and if you have attended Roger’s shows in the past, listening to the recordings will instantly transport you back to the concert! I have to be honest: It would have been nice to have some of Roger’s recent works on this album. But apparently Part Two is in the making, so there’s still hope!

Sleep… what an elusive commodity these days! Having kept a diary over the past three weeks where I record pain levels, what meds I take and at what time, I found that I function best by taking two panadols at 2 am (pain always wakes me up at that time) and another two at 2 pm. I’m still on Nortrilen but it doesn’t seem to make a difference whether I take them or not. I’ve resolved to be an obedient patient, at least until I see the rheumatologist on Saturday. Not too much longer now… Isn’t it disconcerting how you potter through a week’s worth of hours without even realising it?

Woken up at 6.45 by my alarm clock that I forgot to turn off for today’s public holiday, I thought it was healthier to take my coffee out in the quiet garden than staying in bed grumbling about lost sleep. I’m glad I did, too, because otherwise I would have missed this wonderful cloud display!

I’m so longing to go out for a proper photo-shoot again… *huge sigh* I’ve finally become a member of the Malta Institute of Professional Photography (MIPP) and have every intention to make more out of this hobby. Maybe one fine day…

Better days will come! Better days will come! Repeat until true…

Yesterday and Friday were rather cloudy, not in the sense of a thick grey mass (such as today’s!), but the more dramatic kind, which I’m so fond of!

I spent most of Saturday indoors, trying to relax and force my stupid headache into submission (which seems mission impossible and starts worrying me, by the way!). In the afternoon I noticed we’d be running out of cat food by today, so I had to go out to get it from Victoria. Though I grumbled a little, I made the best of it… I took my camera with me and drove around a little in search for suitable subjects to match the beautiful celestial background!

This is the pretty church of Santa Lucija, just a kilometre or so from Victoria.

From there I proceeded to Dwejra, but the views down at the Azure Window were not what I expected. From higher up it was a different story though!

From there I headed back home and discovered that sometimes you don’t really have to venture far for a nice shot: Gharb’s parish church is just a stone’s throw from our house… (the time showing on the clock is wrong – it actually was after 6 pm!)

Finally, this one I actually took on Friday, for Renzo‘s blog post on Discover Gozo. The chapel at Ta’ Hamet (between Xaghra and Xewkija) was built as a gesture of thanksgiving for Gozo’s victory over Napoleon’s forces. What, you didn’t know that part of Gozo’s glorious past yet? Then I suggest you hurry over to the blog, where the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz shows and tells a lot of interesting snippets about our island!

I’ve got more pics to show of this weekend, but they are completely different from these cloudy shots, so they merit their own post – coming soon!
